Zh-7643folk holidays, as well as the rituals, customs and feasts associated with them, entered russian painting in the second half of the 18th century, when the genre of everyday life was slowly developing. The few works that have survived to this day reflect a wide variety of influences - from the realism of the "little dutchmen", not averse to frank brutality, to classicism with its programmatic idealization. At the same time, these first experiments, timid but sincere, testified to the gradual awakening of public interest in folk life and its most typical, vibrant aspects. Date: 1778.
