iconographic description:
pl. N°1 and 2 of the “journey of immutable thought through eager populations”. See pl. N°3 and 4 (pl. 326-327 of number 156) and pl. N°5 and 6 (pl. 328-329 of number 157). Representation of the welcome given to the king by the populations of lisieux and evreux, during his visit to these cities, in 1833 (louis-philippe made a trip to normadie from august 26 to september 12. He notably went to évreux, lisieux, falaise, granville, saint-lô, cherbourg, bayeux, caen, rouen, louviers, le havre). On the left is the royal throne, at the top of several steps. Its front feet are sculpted in the shape of argout's head, equipped with an elephant's trunk. The armrests are sculpted in the shape of clyster syringes, and the backrest is marked with the mongram of louis-philippe (“intertwined lp”). Above the backrest is a crown topped with a lamp held by soult and guizot (?). Behind the throne is a monumental triumphal arch bearing the names of the two welcoming cities (“evreux. ” and “lisieux. ”). A decorative frieze is composed of a fleur-de-lis, a clyster syringe, a pear surrounded by fleur-de-lis and a rooster. Below, a bas-relief of an umbrella crossing a weapon, and above it a hat bearing the tricolor cockade. Below, a handshake. On the base of the arch, a motif of a chest closed with a padlock, and below, bags of shields (“1,000. ”). In front of the triumphal arch, in the foreground, viennet riding a donkey. He holds a pear-shaped lyre in his hands, wears a frock coat whose back is marked with the inscription “impopularity // contempt”. Behind him, on the saddle, hangs a scroll of his “epistle” surmounted by a book. Finally, a small writer's quill hangs on his shoe. All these elements are a reference to his work epistle to the mules of don miguel. In the background, members of the population acclaim the king: “the constituents and the tamerlans, even the idolatrous women of royalty whom they have raised on the bulwark. » (women dressed in traditional clothing). In the center, in the foreground, soldiers stand straight and carry their rifles in front of them. One, small, holds a saber to the side. Another, tall and not very elegant, behind the group, holds the tricolor flag. In the background, a house with laundry drying at its window. Person / character represented:
