Christopher columbus was a whaleback excursion liner designed by alexander mcdougall and built in 1892-1893 in superior, wisconsin by american steel barge company for service to ferry passengers to and from the world's columbian exposition, and later placed in general and excursion service to various ports around the great lakes. This image is one half of a sepia stereoscopic view from the stern, circa 1895/1896 in or near chicago, illinois when she was in general excursion service. Date: Taken probably during the 1895 or 1895 transportation season.
