Dougal and Jeanie, from Trilby, Tony Johannot, 1 January 1846

A man with a casket in his hands is sitting on a shore in front of a tent as a young woman leaning on an oar stands in a boat next to him. Book title: contes de charles nodier author(s): nodier, charles publisher: paris: hetzel, 1846 engraver: johannot, tony note that the source, https://www. Oldbookillustrations. Com/illustrations/golden-dream/ calls it "the golden dream" (or, rather le songe d’or), which is the title of the next story after trilby in contes. However it is inside the story trilby https://archive. Org/details/contesdecharlesn00nod/page/28/mode/2up, and is pretty clearly an illustration of dougal the fisherman and jeanie his wife, finding the jeweled casket with their fishing boat. It is in no way an illustration of any part of the golden dream, which can be found translated at https://www. Bartleby. Com/library/prose/3811. Html, and which is about some golden coins spread beneath a poisonous upas tree that are stumbled upon by a succession of male travelers, a lizard and an angel, and has no casket, no boat, and especially no woman anywhere in that story. Date: 1 January 1846.
