Extract from métamorphoses du jour (published by gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "the time for plowing has passed; the twilight extends its shadows in the valley, revealed only by the quivering of its large trees; the river has shades of mourning like a widow; the heat subsides; it is time to indulge in rest, in rest which is the most innocent of all varieties of pleasure. Rest, for these two brave animals, is the fraternal chat between the smoke of the pipe and the foam of the hops, it is the half-drowsy reverie.
