In the fall of 1885, anders zorn married emma lamm, and the following two years the couple were on the move a lot. Only during 1887 did emma and anders zorn stay, among other things in algiers, paris, cádiz, seville, madrid, paris and london. The summer is spent in sweden, including on dalarö in the stockholm archipelago where zorn's mother-in-law rented a summer house. On dalarö, in 1887, the large watercolor vågskvalp was added, which today is in the collections of the statens museum för kunst in copenhagen. Zorn writes in his autobiographical notes: "again the play of the water that lured down by the jetty". To this watercolor there is a smaller oil sketch, today belonging to the zorn collections in mora. The oil painting water reflections at a stone coffin was probably executed in the same place on dalarö. In a section of the motif, zorn has used quick brushstrokes to evoke the reflections of the clear sunlight in the lapping of the waves under the stone coffin. After the summer stay on dalarö, the zorn couple travels to cornwall and the small fishing village of st. Ives. Until now, zorn's main technique had been watercolor, now he also started working in oil. Object Type: painting. Date: 1887. Dimensions: height: 22 cm (8.6 in); width: 15.5 cm (6.1 in).
