View of château d'esclimont, pencil drawing with white highlight signed, dated and located lower right
sosthène ii de la rochefoucauld (1825-1908), the artist's father, inherited the château d'esclimont (eure-et-loir) and carried out extensive work on it. It was in this château that yolande spent her childhood, and, as our drawing shows, she spent part of her time there once she became a widow and devoted herself to drawing and painting. The artist places her easel at a distance from the west facade of the renaissance château (the first stones of château d'esclimont were laid in 1543). The distance allows the building to be set in a green setting, offering a view of the surrounding park. The artist plays on the precision of the drawing to create light and dark spaces and thus give depth to her representation. Yolande dalbert demonstrates a real talent for rendering the architectural precision of the imposing building. A few highlights of white underline the building's relief. Date: 1886.
