This small painting is a study by géricault after one of the cuirassiers in horace vernet's painting, "the barrier of clichy. Defense of paris, march 30, 1814", signed and dated 1820 (paris, musée du louvre). Despite the subject, it cannot therefore be linked to the "cuirassier wounded" produced by géricault in 1814 and can only be located from 1820. Due to its workmanship, philippe grunchec (1975) placed this work after the artist's return from england, around 1822-1823. Indeed, géricault, who worked in carle vernet's studio from 1808 to 1810, was very close with the painter's son, horace vernet (1789-1863) with whom he shared a real passion for horses and military subjects. Object Type: painting. Date: 1822. Dimensions: height: 14.2 cm (5.5 in); width: 12.3 cm (4.8 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. Le Cuirassier blessé - Géricault
