In 1888 there was announced a competition in copenhagen for a fountain in amagertorv. Skovgaard and the sculptor thorvald bindesbøll sent in this proposal, showing the fountain in the city square. It did not win, but it was later accepted for the square in front of city hall (rådhuspladsen). It was set up in two stages, with the bottom part in 1904 and the top with dragon and bull in 1923. The museum gives a date for the painting between 1871 and 1909, but does not give a reason for this large span in time. In the royal library there is a similar drawing of the fountain, dated "circa 1889". Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1889. Dimensions: height: 72.5 cm (28.5 in); width: 86.5 cm (34 in). Medium: oil on paper. Collection: Statens Museum for Kunst. Joakim Skovgaard - Skitse til Dragespringvandet
