Copy of 'taste, or burlington gate', a satire formerly attributed to hogarth, in which the gate of burlington house, piccadilly, surmounted by statues of william kent, raphael and michelangelo, is being whitewashed by a plasterer (pope) standing on scaffolding; frontispiece to 'a miscellany on taste' (g. Lawton, t. Osborn and j. Hughes: london, 1732), a pirated edition of alexander pope's "epistle to burlington" in which he praises lord burlington's architectural taste. 1732 etching. Date: 1732.
