A photograph of the bust of fryderyk chopin (1810–1849) by bolesław syrewicz (1835–1899) from 1872, currently in the collection of the national museum in warsaw. The sculpture, made of marble, with soft modeling, preserving portrait realism and clothing details, is a good example of the artist's style. The light, marble sculpture on a rectangular, low pedestal contrasts sharply with the uniformly dark, smooth background. Syrewicz was one of the most outstanding sculptors of the second half of the 19th century active in warsaw, and he also completed numerous commissions from abroad. He was educated in warsaw, berlin, munich, rome, florence. He also made numerous artistic trips around europe in order to orient himself in the current trends in sepulchral art, in which he specialized. The print was made on albumen paper, glued to a cardboard backing with an oval dry stamp: "zakład fotograficzny j. Mieczkowskiego w warszawie 498" (medium d. ) the company marking clearly identifies the authorship of the photograph, which is currently kept in the collection of the jan matejko house.
