Heinrich vogtherr the younger, the jester, the powerful bust of a jester fills the entire page. He laughs through the fingers of his left hand, no longer mocked even when mocking. In his right hand he holds a club with a jester's head. The striking cut makes this person in a jester's costume appear self-confident (neumeister 1976, catalogue). The jester is a central figure in the broadside art of the 16th century, as he alone was allowed to tell the truth. A page full of healthy humor, generous in technique. Date: circa 1540. Dimensions: height: 34.5 cm (13.5 in); width: 23.6 cm (9.2 in). Medium: woodcut print. Collection: Friedenstein Castle.
