Immediately after lincoln’s death, printers hurriedly issued commemorative prints to honor the slain president. Indeed, this image of lincoln, rising christ-like from the grave, is a direct copy of an earlier print honoring george washington but with a different head. This explains the presence of several obscure symbols, such as a native american in front of the tomb and an american shield with too few stars. Date: 1865. Dimensions: height: 30 in (76.2 cm); width: 24 in (60.9 cm). Medium: lithograph. Collection: Newberry Library.
