Painter of portraits and religious subjects, jean-jacques bestieu was the third director of the montpellier drawing school, from 1785 to 1814. In 1794 he was responsible for the revolutionary seizures of paintings in churches and convents, canvases stored by abraham fontanel in the former jesuit college, today part of the fabre museum.
