The work represents saint francis of assisi in an ecstatic attitude and contemplating an angel playing a violin, and comes from the small cloister of the disappeared convent of saint francis of seville, and the scene that unfolds on the canvas is inspired by a passage from the writings of saint bonaventure, who was the first biographer of saint francis of assisi, protagonist of this work and founder of the order of the franciscans. And according to this story, on one occasion when the saint of assisi was seriously ill, he felt a desire to hear music, although it was not possible to satisfy his desire, and one night when he was praying he suddenly heard beautiful music and a sensation of such joy invaded him that it seemed to him that he had already left this world.
