Dehodencq a. - ink - study for "christ resurrecting the daughter of jairus" - ~30. 9x19. 7cm; this is a study for the painting of the church of st martin de mâle in orne, painted and presented at the salon of 1876, and a preparatory version of which is in the magnin museum in dijon (inventory n°1938f248). Gabriel séailles (who also had a preparatory version), a close friend of dehodencq, undoubtedly rightly believes that the child represents the artist's daughter, marie, who died of meningitis in 1873, a death from which he could never really recover. Note that the petit palais in paris has a related drawing, of the same dimensions, same technique and same subject (ref ddut1866).
