"portrait of jean françois de la créquy de bonne, duke of
lesdiguieres (1678-1703)
cloth. (restorations). 79. 5 x 65cm
we compare our painting to the portrait painted by rigaud in 1687 (canvas, 81 x 64 cm) and kept at the louvre museum (see s. Perreau, hyacinthe rigaud. Concise catalog of the work, sète, 2013, n° p. 115, reproduced). Our model is the 5th duke of lesdiguières in 1681. He is presented half-length in front of a stone entablature and a landscape. Colonel of the sault regiment and brigadier of the king's armies, the young duke of lesdiguières died young during the battle of modena in italy. We have always noted a resemblance between the duke of lesdiguières and the count of toulouse. This painting remained in the chateau de noailles until 1980. From family tradition, this portrait was considered that of one of the counts of toulouse. ". Date: 17th century. Dimensions: height: 79.5 cm (31.2 in); width: 65 cm (25.5 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unidentified location. Follower of Rigaud - Jean François de la Créquy de Bonne, duc de Lesdiguieres
