Design for an illustration to daniel defoe's 'an essay in the history and reality of apparitions'; scene depicting the apparition of an old baronet to his son jack to prevent him from fighting a duel with his elder brother tom, the father wearing contemporary dress and a full-bottom wig, standing beneath a tree, holding a sword, with his son jack, and in the distance, the father and son shown again. 1727; formerly attributed to hogarth.
