iconographic description:
genre scene: russian occupation in paris, 1815. Exterior scene: paris, "boulevard / des / italiens, front of the "hardy" café, a poster is stuck on each tree, the facade of the café has the inscriptions "cafe / [. . . ]nsh / limo[n] / a / de", "dejeunir / a la foul", "glaces / sorbet / choco / lade", "gas / d' / orc/ ". Characters: numerous figures are in front of the café, under the trees. Three russian soldiers in uniform are courting two seated young elegant ladies. One of them, also seated, presents a tray to the woman wearing a feather headdress. The other woman is wearing a hat of flowers. A smaller man, wearing a phrygian cap, observes the soldier holding the tray. A couple of beggars, kneeling and two children, occupy the lower right corner. The man holds out a timpani and holds a cane and a rosary. A little girl, perhaps the third daughter of the couple, appears to the right of the scene. She hands out cards to the group. A young man, near a tree, looks at the main group. Other men and women appear in the background. One of them is an old man wearing glasses and carrying a thin cane. A “declaration” poster is stuck on the tree. Mode of acquisition: purchase
