"this enamel is painted in imitation of the manner of jean petitot, the leading enamellist of the seventeenth-century, whose prolific output encompassed sitters at the courts of charles i in england and later of louis xiv in france. It appears to be based on petitot's late, french style and may possibly represent the same sitter who is portrayed in another enamel in the royal collection (421433), charlotte marie, demoiselle de chevreuse (1625-1652).
