My dear, dear mum! as you can see, i'm back in blankenburg; you'll have received my card for the trip here. I was actually supposed to leave on wednesday because that's when the course ended. Then suddenly a telegram came saying i should get back as soon as possible. I took my driving test on sunday. I passed it well; it wasn't that difficult. I left on monday at 9:09 a. M. And had another great time. At 4:00 p. M. I was back in what you could call my second home. When i got here, i was naturally interested to see what was going on. I was greeted with joy and was already eagerly awaited. A man from the office went on vacation and so i was urgently needed. You see, people were "missing" me again. So i am now back in the office and am enjoying myself as much as possible. So the worry about me can be put aside for the time being! yesterday, on the evening of my arrival, i also received your letter of october 20th. I was shocked. How thankful i am [to the good lord that he has kept you, my mom, healthy!]. Date: 24 October 1944.
