Author karion istomin (late 1640s - 1717), monk of the moscow chudov monastery, proofreader (editor) of the printing house, court poet and teacher of the tsar's children. The abc book was presented by the author to tsarina praskovia feodorovna, wife of tsar ivan alekseevich, on her birthday on october 14, 1693 and was probably intended for her three daughters.
