230 john dunlop. Died about 1820. Son of provost colin dunlop of carmyle (no. 4). A merchant in glasgow, and afterwards collector of customs at bo'ness and greenock. A bailie from 1786 till 1788, and lord provost of glas- gow in 1794 and '95. He was the author of the beautiful songs "here's to the year that's awa," and " o dinna ask me gin i lo'e ye," and other poems. He was father of john colin dunlop, late sheriff of renfrewshire, author of "the history of fiction," and other works. Taintek, sir henry raeburn, r. A. Date: 31 December 1868.
