The kabuki actor bando shuka as jujibei's wife o-haya (left) and ichikawa danjuro viii as nanyohei (right), both seated in a garden, writing calligraphy on a paper lantern; a musical rehearsal is taking place in the background; scene from the play 'iro no fumizuki', performed at the ichimura theatre in the summer of 1848.
