The work represents the spanish army taking possession in 1859, and in the name of queen isabel ii of spain, of the montearagón castle, located in the province of huesca and confiscated a few years before. In this canvas several characters on horseback or in cars, most of them uncovered, ascend to the castle along the path that goes up around the mound; others wait at the foot as well as the troops. In 1843, with the confiscation laws, the montearagón monastery passed into the hands of private individuals. Its state of conservation was diverse. At a certain point, the royal academy of fine arts of san fernando intervened and sent a claim to the minister of development to prevent the deterioration of the building and seek its reversion to the state; this claim was sent to the provincial monuments commission, which contacted the owners without obtaining satisfactory results. The central commission of the kingdom commissioned the civil governor of the province and president of the provincial commission of monuments to take particular steps to obtain said acquisition, reaching an agreement: said monastery was transferred and donated to the queen, with the quartermaster of the royal house taking possession in her name on july 2, 1859. The painting presents the act of taking possession of the monastery, which was attended by the first civil, military and ecclesiastical authorities and the military force that was waiting for the delegation. In stopping order. León abadías wanted to capture this event on canvas and present it to the queen, although the painting did not reach madrid. Object Type: painting. Date: 1859.
