The Leafs of Willow, Jean-Augustin Franquelin, 1834

Willow leaves. This work is inspired by a poem of the same name by amable tastu taken from the collection poésies, published for the first time in 1826: from the ancient willow inclined on my head/ my hand removes, indolent and distracted, / a green branch; / then i plucked the leaves from its light remains, / following with my eyes its passing course / on the stream. / […] / let's see, i said to the carried leaf, / this that to your fate, my chained fortune / will become?' noticed by critics at the salon of 1834 (number 777), this composition was immediately distributed by the lithograph of adolphe midy. It will appear a second time at the salon, in 1839 (number 800), a few weeks after the artist's death. Engraving lithograph with variant by adolphe midy (1797-1874), in 1834.
