The soldier tired of wars alarms., Robert Dighton, 1780

The citizen-soldier of bmsat 5783 (vanhagen, the pastry cook) stands at his bench, wearing an apron. He is looking intently at his own caricature, 'he wou'd be a soldier', see bmsat 5783, which he holds in his left hand. In his right is an implement for rolling or pressing, and on the bench are small disks, indicated pastry shapes. On the ground at his feet lie his hat, musket, bayonet, bandolier, and cartouche box, the last decorated with the city arms. His shoes are unbuckled, his stockings ungartered, his breeches unbuttoned at the knee. 6 september 1780 etching. Date: 1780. Dimensions: Height: 180 mm; Width: 146 mm. Medium: paper.
