the 18th century inscription at the bottom of the sheet, "manglar - avenionensis - 1748", identifies the author, alludes to his brief study stay in avignon and dates the work to the prosperous years of his career. This inscription in brown ink also reveals that this drawing belonged to the collection of charles-françois de calvière, marquis de vézénobres, who had the habit of annotating himself, in brown ink and always in the same way, on a very particular montage framed with indian ink lines, the approximately two thousand drawings in his collection.
