Seven ghosts wearing long white robes and tall conical caps sit at a bare table, an eighth stands holding a dish and guttering candle. Two hold goblets. They are grotesque, some with long pointed ears. They sing:
"since here we are met,
of ghosts a set,
of ether we'll drink galore;
we'll rant and revel,
and play the devil,
while grass grows green at the door! [&c]"
in the background five ghosts, naked except for their caps, dance in a ring, one holding up a broom. August 1799
