Hms 'lion': study of 'b' turret inscribed by the artist 'lion', twice at the bottom and right. The battlecruiser 'lion' was built at devonport dockyard, launched on 6 august 1910 and completed in may 1912. This is a port-broadside detail of 'b' turret in 1917-18 prior to the fitting of a rangefinder on the roof of the armoured conning tower (right). The seaplane in the pencil sketch above cannot be identified. The green background may indicate land behind. Date: 1917. Dimensions: 252 mm x 354 mm. Collection: Fine art.
