Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (10/23/1944) letter no. 291 (10/24/1944) next letter (11/02/1944) [how thankful] i am to god that he kept you, my mom, healthy! it must have been terrible. I can't even imagine our beautiful vienna and the places of my childhood in ruins - who would have ever thought it would be like that! it's a miracle that our house is still standing. When will this madness end? be careful and stay healthy. Take all your papers with you, but if it's really bad, it's better to let everything go to hell, but stay healthy! if we have any bomb damage, let me know as quickly as possible. There's damage abc - if that's the case, i can come to you. If i could, i would take you in immediately because here no one has noticed any of this misery. Now i am more or less safe and you, my mother, are at the front. My only hope is that nothing happens to you! don't worry about me, everything is fine! - your package just arrived, thank you very much for everything. May god protect you, my love in the world! warm greetings and kisses from your hansl. Date: 24 October 1944.
