description:
small round box with lid. The cylindrical body is slightly constricted before the base while above a cylindrical part the lid is domed into two rings from a flat center. Gray earth covered with a green-yellow glaze, very finely cracked and inlaid with red, with in the center of the lid, a stylized floral motif, dark green with a more yellow halo, painted under the glaze. Outside, the glaze stops at the cylindrical part, apart from a few drops to the base. The interior is completely covered, with some gaps and places covered with earth. The joining parts remained bare (m. -t. Bobot). Iconographic description:
these small “ho” boxes could contain ointments or makeup, cosmetics or medicines. They were also used to contain the red seal paste necessary for the seals of calligraphy and paintings. Historical commentary:
