iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "le pont-neuf", architecture. Characters: a man sitting on the ground shears a dog with scissors while he chats with his wife carrying puppies in her apron. The man is leaning against a sign indicating: "jean marte barbe/heals the dogs/cats and parrots/cuts and shears the/dogs and his wife/goes to town" and "we only/have to put his/address in/this box". Two other dogs are attached to the panel. Next to it, a man on his knees cleans and shines the shoes of a young seamstress. She carries packages and a scissor on her belt. The man's equipment, placed on a crate, a bucket and shoes are placed near him. A large container mentions “cirage à / la francaise / & à l’anglaise”. Book sellers are present on the bridge crossed by a cart. A blind man sits near the couple with the dogs. Women, men and children walk across the bridge. Mode of acquisition: purchase
