Crucifixion with several figures and six scenes from the Passion of Christ, between 1515 and 1524

The gold painted moldings make the panel look like a triptych, the 'side panels' of which are made up of three scenes one above the other. The central scene shows christ on the cross between the two crucified murderers in a mountainous area with jerusalem in the background on the right and the sea in the distance. Mary magdalene is kneeling at the foot of christ's cross. Mary, john and the two other marys are depicted to the left of the cross. On the right two standing figures and a group of riders. Among the latter is the believing centurion, who points with his right hand to christ. Three episodes from the passion story are depicted on either side of the central scene. At the top left christ is depicted in the garden of olives. An angel holds out the cup of suffering to him. Three of his disciples are sleeping in the foreground. In the background, judas leads the soldiers entering through the gate to christ. The middle scene shows pilate washing his hands while christ is led away by soldiers. To the right of pilate is his wife, who tells him her dream and to the left two men. In the scene at the bottom left, christ is shown to the people ('ecce homo'). At the bottom of the balcony two men hold the cross. The people on the right. The scene at the top right shows the carrying of the cross. Christ fell under the burden of the cross and landed with his knees on the nail block. Simon of cyrene helps him carry the cross while armed soldiers chase him along. Veronica, kneeling, holds out the cloth to him. Mary and john can be seen in the background on the right. The middle scene shows the lamentation in front of the cross against which the ladder is placed. Christ is supported by john and mary magdalene anoints his feet. Maria kneels next to him and the two other marias stand behind her. Behind john, joseph of arimathea is depicted with three nails in his hand. Nicodemus is standing to the right of the cross. In the left foreground are the crown of thorns and three nails. The image at the bottom right shows christ being placed in a sarcophagus by joseph of arimathea and nicodemus. Mary bends over christ. Behind her john, flanked by the two other marys. Mary magdalene sits in the foreground and kisses christ's hand. Next to her is the jar of ointment, the crown of thorns and three nails.
