The armor maker woodcut from: jost amman (1539-1591): actual description of all classes on earth, high and low, spiritual and secular, of all arts, crafts and trades. (first published in frankfurt am main 1568; also known as: the estates book) in the book, the image is accompanied by the following text by hans sachs: i am a foreign armor maker, i make steel armor shirts, also armor sleeves and armor lines, which are worn openly and secretly, also collars made of good steel armor, i can also roll and sweep armor where they start to rust, midias armor making began. Comments: the verse "midias armor making began" is intended to refer to the origin of the armor making craft in ancient times. The reference to midias remains unclear; as with other poems in the collection, it could be a designation of origin rather than a name. Date: Frankfurt am Main,1568.
