My beloved mother! greetings from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately we rarely get any mail these days, but that doesn't matter; i know that you're always thinking of me and writing a lot. I was with the baggage train for 5 days and had something to do. Unfortunately my battalion has now been disbanded for good. All the people from our old baggage train are going to the front into the trenches. So you see, i'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm doing well considering the circumstances and am healthy. Otherwise it's always the same old "theater". Date: 18 September 1943.
