The rătești monastery church, dedicated to the holy trinity, in buzău county, was built in 1844 by bishop chesarie, who hired nicolae teodorescu and his grandson, gheorghe tattarescu, to paint it, using the fresco technique. The building was included in the list of historical monuments in 2015, but the original painting was not preserved. That painting, in which the painter's personality was already asserted, seems to have convinced bishop chesarie that the young tattarescu deserves to go to study abroad, a journey that began in the spring of the following year, in 1845.
