iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "rue montorgueil", restaurant, wine store, architecture. Characters: a woman sitting on a high chair, holds an oyster while another woman holds an oyster knife in front of a wine merchant whose facade is decorated with bottles and the words "wines of / bordeaux / 30 days". The second woman watches a waiter from the wine merchant pass, holding two books and carrying a jug on his head. Several baskets containing oysters are placed on the table and on the ground. A plate of oysters is also placed on the table. Men taste oysters while another collects shells from the ground in front of the restaurant "au rocher de cancal" indicated by a large sign and on the facade. A cart, loaded with oysters, travels further down the street. A woman, carrying a basket and a belly basket loaded with poultry, seems to call out to passers-by.
