Three berbers, to left a man seated close to a small stove, on the outside of an ancient egyptian building near a large column, wearing robes, a turban, a scarf and shoes, plays a stringed instrument ('kisirka') to two young women standing to right, both barefoot and wearing bangles, one of them has her head covered, wears a robe, shawl and an ankle bangle, and holds a jug, while the other, leaning on her companion, has her head uncovered, her left breast exposed, and wears pantaloons, a shawl and necklaces; after prisse d'avennes; illustration to 'oriental album: characters, costumes, and modes of life in the valley of the nile', with text by james augustus st john and illustrations by e.
