historical commentary:
the adventures of the green-green parrot or the journey of the parrot of nevers enjoyed great success in the 18th and 19th centuries. Vert-vert tells the story of a parrot taken into a convent in nevers. Raised by the visitandine sisters, the parrot speaks a refined language. Sent to the nuns of nantes, he learned the vocabulary of the boatmen who took him down the loire. The nantes nuns, taken aback by the bird's language, sent him back to nevers where he would end his days. In 1869, offenbach wrote the comic opera vert-vert and the history painter fleury richard presented at the salon of french artists of 1804 a painting entitled vert-vert, today kept at the museum of fine arts in lyon.
