thirty-nine studies and a large drawing board show the preparatory work for the execution of the painting. Marks, inscriptions, hallmarks:

iconographic description:
studies for the meal with simon the pharisee. Study at the top right: christ, seated at a table around which guests are discussing, addresses the pharisee to explain his gesture: with his head turned to the right, he looks at the latter and points with his right hand to mary magdalene crying at his feet. Study lower left: same scene as the previous one but with variations: christ looks at mary magdalene; in the background, behind the saint and in the background, more guests are gathered. The basin which appeared in the foreground in front of the table on the previous study has disappeared here and the perfume vase, which mary magdalene held in her left hand, is on this study, placed on the ground. On the back of the sheet, study for a guest of the same painting; academy of man seated with his back and leaning on his left arm, holding his chin in his left hand. Historical commentary:
