Imaginary portrait of king ferdinand iii of castile, nicknamed "the saint" († 1252). He was the son of king alfonso ix of león and queen berenguela i of castile. During his reign, the kingdoms of león and castile were definitively reunified and the cities of jaén, córdoba, seville and murcia, among others, were conquered from the muslims. He died in 1252 and was succeeded by his son, alfonso x the wise. In 1671 he was canonized by pope clement x and his mortal remains, which are preserved incorrupt, are venerated in the cathedral of seville. Object Type: painting. Date: 1850.
