jean hugo (1894-1984), great-grandson of victor hugo, eldest son of georges hugo and pauline ménard-dorian. Here on the left with next to him in the center the poet max jacob and jean cocteau on the right for whom he created the sets for his production of roméo et juliette in 1924. Married to the painter valentine gross (hugo) in 1919, jean hugo frequented many artists and poets of this period: paul eluard, raymond radiguet, andré breton but also erik satie and the ballets russes. He created numerous theater sets and costumes and illustrated numerous books. He is also the brother of marguerite hugo and the half-brother of françois hugo, goldsmith, born from the second marriage of his father georges with dora dorian, his mother's cousin.
