Cinderella About to Try on the Glass Slipper, Richard Redgrave, circa 1842
Redgrave exhibited this painting with a quotation from cinderella: that minx, said the step-sister, to think of trying on the slipper. The painting shows costume and furnishings in a mix of styles: the tunics and pointed-toe shoes are medieval in flavour; the women’s clothing is 18th century in style; and the chair in the foreground is victorian.
