Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-08-23) letter no. 274 (1944-08-28) next letter (1944-08-31) envelope: front back text [i thought about how we] were together in the castle cinema. It was a lovely time. Now there’s nothing going on at home either; all the theatres, cabarets, circuses, etc. Are closing. The viennese will be pleased. These measures will certainly free up thousands of people for the wehrmacht and armaments, but they should have done that earlier, not now when it is perhaps already too late! well, we can’t cut back much here; there’s only one cinema. In the evenings i often go to the duke’s orchards by the castle and look for “fallen fruit” – great pears and apples. It's better with the planes, they only come now and then at night, but they only fly overhead. Last week we had a lovely concert by the lower saxony orchestra, they played works by mozart, schubert and our strauss, it was wonderful. So everything is fine with me, don't worry. Just stay healthy. Please say hello to karl, fritzl and all your friends. Lots of love and kisses from your hansl. Ns please send me some tobacco! Date: 28 August 1944.
