Crispijn van de Passe.- Flora's Mallewagen, La première crise du capitalisme, 1637

Flora's mallewagen. Cartoon on the tulip trade from 1637. Flora, a nymph from roman mythology, equivalent to the greek nymph chloris, in a sailing cart, is surrounded by the personification of idleness (with an anchor) and jesters representing greed, gluttony and other vices. In the mast, a monkey shits. Behind the cart, a group of men and women abandon the tools of their trade and want to get into the carriage. On the ground, there are several varieties of tulips and the indication of their names. On the right, in the background, the farmer of zandvoorter and the sheriff watch the cart being swallowed up by the waves. Four cartouches in the corners, bottom left the cartouche with the "company of florists of haarlem of the netherlands who consult around a table. The print is accompanied by a text. Attempt at a translation of description into dutch. Date: 1637.
