The monkey forcing the cat to extract the nuts from the fire (illustration to the fable of the "catspaw"); a trencher copied from gheeraerts's illustrations to aesop. C. 1630/6 engraving; diameter: 123 millimetres from a set of twelve plates that were intended to be used as trenchers. "the monkey seing nuts in fire doth force the cat to plucke them neir; which showeth the enuious doth not care, whose house do burne so they haue share. ". Date: between 1630 and 1636.
