Esther and king ahasuerus in the old testament. From the church paintings in vänge church, uppland, sweden. The church walls are believed to have been painted either by albertus pictor or his disciples. This particular painting shows the story of the book of esther in the old testament. The bearded man holding a sceptre to the left is king ahasuerus and kneeling in front of his is esther herself. The two people in the middle is esther and the villain, haman, who will soon be hanged from the gallows. The two people to the right is from a different old testament story, solomon and bathsheba. Date: Late 15th century?.
