temple of molière, pavilion of the former choiseul praslin property, 57, rue théophile gauthier, 16th arrondissement. Empire urban architecture, in the antique style. Brick facade, cut stone corner surround, porch, twin ionic columns, entablature, palmette frieze and other plant motifs. Triangular pediment, tympanum, inscriptions: "ici / fut la maison / de moliere", crowns of foliage, semi-circular tympanum, female allegory in bas-relief: thalie dropping her mask, empty niches. Roof terrace, garden, trees. Historical commentary:
residence acquired by duke antoine-césar de choiseul praslin. Small greco-roman pastiche temple, early empire, it disappeared in 1908. Molière's house was located at 29 rue rémusat (formerly 1 rue molière) and nº62 rue théophile gauthier see j. Hillairet, historical dictionary of the streets of paris, t. 2, p. 554 and t. 1, p. 330. The empty niches held the busts of molière, corneille, racine and de la fontaine. Molière lived in a house, 2 rue d'auteuil (see catalog of the exhibition at the carnavalet museum in 1982).
