A giant serpent of many-colored rope is borne by a wildly snakedancing throng through the holy square of cuzco
it stops with its pumalike head in front of the brillantly bedecked imperial throne of the inca, who is flanked by high priests and the mummies of his ancestors. Mummified in flexed position, these incas of earlier days made conical bundle about four feet high and looked as if they were solemnly sitting. They were brought out in state from the temple of the sun and ranged here to watch the annual dance. Date: 1938.
